Post Mortem Analysis It is not always clear to the naked eye, what has caused unexpected or premature wear of a refractory material. Therefore, Harbison-Walker maintains one of the world's largest refractory testing laboratories. Housed in HWR's research and development center in West Mifflin, PA, Harbison-Walker's post mortem testing center has analyzed thousands of used refractory samples. A team of chemists, physicists and mineralogists are on site to analyze refractory samples using scanning electron microscopes, x-ray diffraction and x-ray spectrometry. HWR's post mortem team can provide greater insight into why a refractory may have failed and can help lead to the discovery of an enhanced refractory solution for your application. Engineering Services HWR houses a full staff of engineers and draftsmen at its corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA, capable in providing detailed drawings and refractory lining designs. Located throughout the USA, HWR's Application Specialists are trained personnel specializing in refractory materials for a given application. Training Harbison-Walker believes that an educated customer is a good customer. Therefore, Harbison-Walker is willing to provide refractory training for our customers, either on site at your facility or at our Technology Center in West Mifflin, PA. HWR's marketing staff will develop a set of presentations designed to train your employees in the refractory needs of your given application.
